AIRPEL Double Filters

AIRPEL double filters (OW and OWM series) are designed to ensure continuous, uninterrupted flow even during cleaning or replacement of the filter elements.
Their dual-chamber construction allows the flow to be diverted from one side to the other through a simple manual operation, keeping the system running at all times.

They are the ideal choice for protecting pumps, valves and process systems in plants where service continuity and operational reliability are critical, such as in food and beverage production lines, chemical processes, and cooling or lubrication systems.

Features

  • High-quality 316 stainless-steel baskets with large filtration areas, resulting in low pressure losses.
  • Compact and robust one-piece cast construction, available from ¾” (20 mm) to 8″ (200 mm).
  • Simple and safe flow changeover using a dual rotary valve (cocks) with a central handle.
  • Working pressures up to 50 bar (A300 Series).
  • Quick-release covers and hand-tightening bolts for easy and safe maintenance.
  • No cross-contamination between filtered and unfiltered fluid during changeover.
  • Wide range of materials and optional accessories.
  • Filtration down to 10 microns (with special elements).
  • The handle covers the chamber in use, preventing accidental opening under pressure.

Options

  • Construction in cast iron, cast steel, bronze or stainless steel (depending on OW / OWM / A300 series).
  • Visual or electrical differential pressure indicators (D.P.I.).
  • Heating jacket for temperature-controlled or high-viscosity processes.
  • Integrated pressure-balancing valve as standard for sizes DN100 and above.
  • 100% leak-tight shut-off during switching, thanks to the special shaft seal.
  • Automatic air eliminators after basket cleaning.
  • Magnetic inserts suspended from the cover for metallic-particle capture.
  • Custom elements and baskets available in mesh or wedge-wire according to filtration requirements.

AIRPEL double filters provide an efficient and low-maintenance solution for fluid-system protection in industrial environments.
Their simple, robust and accessible design makes them a very versatile option for both auxiliary and main lines.
They are especially suitable as a first stage of solid retention, adapting to varying pressure conditions and different contamination levels.

Sizing Example – AIRPEL Double Filters

A double OW-type filter is required to protect a line with a flowrate of 1,200 litres/min, a pressure of 6 bar(g) and a temperature of 30 °C.
The fluid is water containing solid particles, and a maximum clean pressure drop of 35 kPa is acceptable.

Verification of pressure and temperature: 30 °C / 6 bar(g) → Standard OW filter is suitable.

Mesh selection: For 200 microns or finer, an 80-mesh basket (190 µm) is required.

Initial pressure-drop determination: On the selection chart, marking a flowrate of 600 L/min intersects the diagonal filter line, corresponding vertically to a 65 mm (2½”) filter, with a clean ΔP of 28 kPa.

Applying correction factor for mesh type (80 mesh):
Corrected ΔP = 28 kPa × 1.1 = 30.8 kPa, within acceptable limits.

Final selection:
→ OW double filter, 3″ (80 mm), cast-iron body, with a 150-mesh (100 µm) internal basket.

Accessories and Spare Parts

A complete range of optional accessories allows the filters to be tailored to specific process requirements.

DIFFERENTIAL PRESSURE INDICATOR (D.P.I.)

Designed to monitor basket condition and provide a visual signal when cleaning is required.

AVAILABLE OPTIONAL ACCESSORIES

  • Heating jacket
For constant-temperature processes requiring stable flow of viscous fluids.
  • Automatic air eliminators
Used to purge air from the filter after basket cleaning.
  • Magnetic inserts
Suspended from the cover to capture metallic particles.
Magnets can be nylon-coated if required.
  • 100% shut-off sealing system
Ensures full tightness during line switching.
  • Custom-designed elements & baskets
Manufactured to meet specific process requirements in mesh or wedge-wire.

Typical Application

  • Industrial processes requiring continuous, interruption-free flow.
  • Primary or secondary filtration systems in chemical or food plants.
  • Thermal-oil, glycol, industrial-water or coolant lines.
  • Lubrication circuits and protection of pumps or control valves.

AIRPEL double filters represent a robust, versatile and low-maintenance solution for ensuring process continuity.
Their dual-chamber design allows basket changes without shutting down the line, minimising downtime and ensuring constant, efficient filtration.
